Fungus spawns in very quickly with no warning

Specs:
- AMD Ryzen 7 3800X
- NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 SUPER (driver version 560.94)
- 32 GB RAM
- Windows 11 24H2
In some cases, fungus seems to spawn very suddenly and with no/little animation. I assume the intent is for it to feel like it's growing quickly, but for me it felt more like a glitch when this happens. For instance, when getting back to the exit of the first level, an explosive fungus suddenly appeared directly in front of me and blew up before I could react.
